Avi Weisfogel is firm believer in philanthropic causes in addition to leading a successful dentistry career. Avi has set up a GoFundMe for a project called Operation Smile. The funds from this campaign will assist children in need of surgical procedures. Young adults who with a cleft palate, cleft lip, and other deformities which can be fixed by cosmetic dentistry will receive treatment for these conditions that may not have otherwise been accessible to them due to financial reasons. Currently, the campaign aims for $2,000.
Avi Weisfogel believes this campaign will help children, but also communities at large. Operation smile will boost the esteem of children suffering from facial and dental deformities, increasing their odds of success in life. In fact, Weisfogel states that giving children this chance is the top priority of the campaign. Operation smile is made possible by local medical staff and facilities in partnership with governments and other organizations. Identifying and implementing effective solutions for children not only creates a dialogue between these entities, but ensures that creative medical care for the future are put in place. This is important as Operation Smile participates in international medical missions every year. This is an intensive experience for organizers who must constantly identify need for import of specific equipment in addition to working with locals despite language and cultural barriers.
Operation Smile, originally founded in 1982 by Bill and Kathy Magee is due to go on their first medical mission in the Philippines. Through the years this organization has not only built a global network of volunteers, it has also assisted with the provision of over 220,000 free surgeries. The training of local professionals is also an invaluable service to many of the countries visited. Medical staff that lacks the type of training needed to offer these services to children serve disadvantaged communities all over the world.
Avi Weisfogel is proud to be involved with this organization and has always shown an interest in charitable causes. Weisfogel started his dentistry career at Rutgers University with a BS in Biology and psychology. He would later enter into a program at the College of Dentistry at New York University. After obtaining these credentials, Weisfogel began his work with Dental Sleep Masters Seminars where he provided instruction for medical professionals working with patients who suffered from sleep disorders like apnea.
